Los Santos in late May 2026 feels busy, but not in the "free full game" way some posts make it sound. GTA V is still a paid Rockstar release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and GTA Online can also be bought on its own on current-gen consoles. If you're jumping back in for the weekly grind, the useful stuff is inside Online: bonuses, showroom picks, claimable gear, and discounts. Players chasing cash will care more about contracts, races, and smart spending than rumours, which is why many still track GTA 5 Money while planning the week.
The May 21 to May 27 event is the second Motor Madness week, and yeah, it's very car-heavy. Auto Shop Robbery Contracts are paying 2x GTA$ and RP, which is probably the cleanest earner if you already own an Auto Shop. LS Car Meet Series races also pay double, covering Street Races, Pursuit Races, Drag Races, and Drift Races. On top of that, LS Car Meet activities give 5x Reputation, so anyone still unlocking trade prices, clothing, liveries, or rank rewards should use the window. The small side money is there too: Junk Energy Time Trials and RC Time Trials both have double rewards. Not huge, but quick. Nice filler between bigger jobs.
Don't skip the free and reward items if you're already logging in. The Rockstar Helmet is a login reward before May 27. Buy any vehicle from Simeon's showroom and you get the Rockstar Racing Suit. Buy from Luxury Autos and you get the LS Customs Varsity Jacket. Pick up any vehicle inside the LS Car Meet and the Blue Banshee Tee is yours. The Weekly Challenge is simple enough as well: win two LS Car Meet Races and you get the Bright Manor Racing Suit plus GTA$100,000. Quick notes, because players love the short version. 1. Prize Ride: Ocelot Virtue. 2. Requirement: Top 3 in three races. 3. Lucky Wheel: Ocelot R88.
This is where the week gets practical. LS Car Meet Membership is free, which helps newer players who never bothered with that side of the game. Horns are free too, though that's more funny than essential. The better discounts are 50% off Benny's Conversion Upgrades, Turbo Tuning, HSW Performance Upgrades, LS Tuners Racing Suits, and blue or yellow tire smoke. HSW only matters on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and upgraded PC, so legacy players shouldn't get baited by that line. Auto Shops, their upgrades, and modifications are 40% off, and Garage Properties are also 40% off. That's a decent buy week if your vehicle storage is a mess.
A lot of "free GTA 5" chatter is just sloppy wording. The actual free claim history points to things like the Hands On Car Wash, which was free back in January 2026, not now. A later report says Higgins Helitours becomes free from May 28 to June 3, but that still depends on owning the Car Wash first, so check the dates before blowing cash. GTA+ is its own lane as well, limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Enhanced, with May benefits only partly confirmed from available sources.
